Downers Grove is a large village positioned in the northern corner of Illinois. It is a suburb of Chicago and is located about 20 miles from the city. After the end of the Black Hawk War which relocated many Native American Indian tribes west of the Mississippi River, settlers began arriving in the area of present-day Downers Grove. However, Pierce Downer was the first settler in Downers Grove and arrived before the end of the war. Grove claimed 160 acres of prairie and timberland. As more settlers arrived in the area, blacksmith shops and homes were constructed. In 1864, the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad arrived in the community. This gave new life to the community and paved the way for its future success. Less than 10 years later, Downers Grove was given approval for incorporation.

Today, Downers Grove is a popular Chicago suburb. It is home to beautiful residential neighborhoods and shopping centers. Also located in the village are parks, recreational facilities, 3 train stops which provide easy access to downtown Chicago, and several golf courses.
