Located about 17 miles outside of Chicago, Illinois is a large city known as Elmhurst. It is positioned in DuPage County and is one of the largest communities located therein. In 1842, Gerry Bates established a community on a plot of land that would later become the Elmhurst City Centre. In 1845, the community was named Cottage Hill following the opening of a post office. The Galena and Chicago Union Railroad arrived four years later and gave new life to the community. By 1869, the community changed its name to Elmhurst and by 1882 was incorporated.
