Prior to 1958, the area now occupied by Glendale Heights was rural farmland with small pockets of subdivisions. Charles and Harold Reskin, operators of Midland Enterprises, purchased two farms on Glen Ellyn Road and funded the construction of the first houses north of North Avenue in 1958. Construction continued and by 1959 a population of 104 lived in the quickly developing area. That same year the residents circulated a petition for incorporation and on July 13, 1959, the community was declared an organized village.
