Hinsdale is a village located in northeastern Illinois. It is a western Chicago suburb, located about 20 miles from downtown Chicago. Hinsdale is positioned in DuPage County and has small portions located Cook County. According to the United States Census Bureau, approximately 17,631 people lived in Hinsdale in 2016.
After many Native American Indian tribes were relocated from northern Illinois to the west of the Mississippi, European-American settlers began moving to the area. The arrival of new settlers opened the door for individuals to establish businesses and farms. When the CB&Q Railroad arrived at a local business concurrent with William Robbins, the idea to establish a new village in the booming area was born. Robbins saw great potential in the Illinois real estate business and in 1865 he platted a village. The next year, a stone school building, graded streets, and plank walks were built in the village. The maturing village attracted many individuals and by 1873, Hinsdale was incorporated as a village.
Today, the Village of Hinsdale is home to beautiful neighborhoods, hospitals, parks, and shopping and dining opportunities. Also located in Hinsdale are several train stops which provide residents of the city easy access to downtown Chicago. The village is positioned along Highway 294 which expands across the Chicago Metropolitan Area. In Hinsdale, residents experience a friendly community of people, large city conveniences, and easy access to Chicago.
